New customers select Cameo for improved business efficiency

Written by: Steve Bazeley 19/02/2009

Cam Systems has extended its UK customer base with new Cameo operating system installations in Scotland, England and Northern Ireland in the early months of 2009.

Strathclyde Tyre Services, with retail centres in Johnstone, Coatbridge and Kilmarnock, Chris Mullins Tyres, a start-up business in Gloucester, and Cookstown Tyre Depot in
Mid-Ulster, have all selected Cam as their choice of IT business partner.

A major attraction for Strathclyde Tyre Services was the fact that Cameo is a bespoke tyre industry system, rather than the generic business management program the company had used previously. Finance manager Jaine Chisholm says that the quality of management information provided by Cameo is a major plus factor. “For example, the ability to track a tyre from purchase through to sale means we have a complete picture of pricing and margins, which is particularly important in the present trading environment. Cameo can tell us if we are running the business efficiently, and if we are not, it can help refocus our efforts to become a more effective operation.”

For Chris Mullins and John Price, partners in Chris Mullins Tyres, a new 4,000 sq ft retail centre on the busy Bristol Road in Gloucester, the choice of Cameo was an easy one to make as both men had many years experience of the system from time spent with Ebley Tyres, Micheldever and ProTyre.

“It was an obvious choice but I am still impressed with Cameo, it’s a tremendous program,” said John Price. “We have installed the full operating system which includes the standard sales and purchase functions as well as the General Ledger finance module and the new Workshop Scheduler option to manage our busy customer bookings and centre workflow.”

Price confirms the trend of motorists keeping their vehicles longer in the current recession, which he believes is a real opportunity for switched-on retail businesses. “It’s very apparent that people are having to spend money keeping their cars on the road longer, rather than replacing them as they might have done in previous years. In general, they are also trading down in terms of tyre brands and prices, which makes it essential that our purchase, pricing and stock control is spot-on to meet that demand, which is another area where Cameo has proven expertise,” he says.

For Cookstown Tyre Depot owner Anthony McColgan the installation of Cameo at the end of January marked a dramatic change from the manual systems used to run the single centre operation for the previous four years. “It was a long term investment in the future of the business, which will make us far more efficient,” he believes. “I spoke to other companies around here and found out that several of them already used Cam Systems, so it made sense for me to follow their direction. I could have gone for a cheaper option but I’m very pleased with what I’ve seen so far.”

Mike Allen, Cam’s managing director commented: “These three new installations in very different areas of the UK reflect the fact that business owners are still prepared to invest in the future efficiency of their operations. They also demonstrate that Cameo is a scaleable system that can work as well for smaller companies as it can for the large multi-branch companies we support such as Micheldever, Merityre and many of the Group Tyre members.”
